The Accounting Society at the Schulich School of Business is an independent student-run organization whose goal is to enhance the learning experience of students through real-world exposure. We are committed to facilitating contacts between society members and industry professionals as well professional bodies through our speaker series and annual dinner. The society's mandate also includes highlighting the various career paths available to those entering the profession. We aim to benefit both accounting students and accounting firms by staging as many direct interactions between the two groups as possible.

President

Nikola Ilic
BBA, 4th Year
As a President, Nikola is responsible for leading the AS executive council, overseeing smooth functioning of various activities and projects, acting as a liaison between faculty and students, maintaining active and warm relationships with sponsors and working on the areas of immediate and future improvement. Nikola believes in hard work and persistency and strives for personal growth. This summer, Nikola worked for the City of Toronto's finance department. He resolved account discrepancies by coordinating with various divisions in order to facilitate payments and ensure smooth allocation of the City finances. In his spare time, Nikola enjoys reading and playing tennis.

Vice-President, Special Events

Michael Gouveia
BBA, 3rd Year
As Vice President of Special Events, Michael works closely with the President, executives, corporate sponsors and students in ensuring the success of the club’s events. He is responsible for planning, managing and hosting various events including the annual accounting dinner and the accounting case competition. In addition to this, Michael oversees his team of event organizers and coordinates the gift packages for our members. Michael has had a diverse range of professional experiences. Last summer he worked as an intern at the head office of Morneau Sobeco, the largest Canadian owned HR consulting and outsourcing firm. Michael always approaches tasks with an open mind and a positive attitude. In his spare time, he enjoys watching and playing a variety of sports, especially soccer.

Vice-President, Communications & Technology

Justin Liu
iBBA, 3rd Year
As VP Communications and Technology, Justin's goal is to ensure that the Accounting Society's mission is conveyed through the various forms of communication media available, all of which are easily accessible to its members. He is responsible for maintaining, developing and promoting the Society’s website, in addition to managing the electronic mail database and frequent communications to all its members. During this past summer, Justin worked with for the Town of Markham as a sports instructor and camp counselor. He approaches all tasks with a positive attitude and is committed to putting quality work into everything he undertakes. In his spare time, he enjoys watching and playing sports, especially basketball and soccer.

Douglas Guan
BBA, 4th Year
As VP External Relations, Doug Guan works hard to develop the positive relationships the Schulich Accounting Society has with its corporate supporters. This includes ensuring that the opportunities provided by the society are closely aligned the needs of our partners and that their interests are always taken into account when developing the various events organized by the Accounting Society. In his spare time, Doug enjoys competitive swimming, squash, and exploring the world, one country at a time.

Vice-President, Marketing

Stella Au
BBA, 3rd Year
As Vice President of Marketing, Stella is responsible for promoting AS’ initiatives, developing marketing strategies, and executing internal recruitment campaigns. She is also an executive member of the Schulich Charity Association and helps the Schulich student body to make its mark in society in terms of philanthropy. Stella is committed to enriching the Schulich experience by raising the profile of the career opportunities the accounting profession has to offer while encouraging students to give back to the community. Stella is a shopaholic and loves the TV show, "One Tree Hill".

Vice-President, Finance

Jaiwinder Puar
BBA, 3rd Year
As VP Finance, Jaiwinder is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the Society and working closely with the executive to budget for events that will occur throughout the 2008-2009 year. During this past summer, he worked as an administrative assistant for the Malvern Family Resource Centre and assisted the organization with improving its internal initiatives. In his spare time, Jaiwinder enjoys practicing martial arts and working out.

Event Organizer

Brian Ma
BBA, 3rd Year
The event coordinators act as key liaisons between the Accounting Society members and its various external partners to ensure mutual benefits amongst all parties. Brian works with Alice to develop and execute major initiatives throughout the school year including the recruitment series, information sessions, and office visits. He also assists the VP, Special Events in planning the Annual Accounting Dinner and Case Competition. During his free time, Brian enjoys playing tennis, poker, and more recently, golf.
